"Give me your tired, your poor. Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free." -- That's what the (female) statue in Emma Lazarus's 1883 poem "The New Colossus" said. Emma wrote the sonnet for an auction to raise money for the pedestal of the then-new Statue of Liberty. The statue cries from "silent lips," welcoming the world's exiles to her land. Some of us still share this ethos... and we don't want to be silent.
